Workshop issues

1 - Nondisclosure contracts
2 - Domain knowledge valued by biz
- Hard to move across research/practice within a company
- Marketing people selling related services
- Project constraints (time, money, etc.) limit ability to use HCI research

Certification of some sort (with an updated BOK model)

From the SIG:
  • Practitioners are not the decision makers/influencers: we are not reaching DM/I
  • Need more corporate research sponsorship
  • Managing failure is hard, so managers not likely to want to take the risk of a "researchy" project
  • Corporation unlikely to change (to connect with research better) if already making money
  • HCI practitioners are not driving the products in the market
